Can this Hispanic female candidate beat Sheila Jackson-Lee in November? She thinks she can, and we will talk to her. Congressional District 18, now held for 27 years by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson-Lee, was once an overwhelmingly black district with nearly 60% black voters. After the latest redistricting, the district is 44% Hispanic, 35% Black, and 17% White. Carmen María Montiel who was born in Venezuela and came to the US to attend college, thinks that unless we get rid of office holders like Sheila Jackson-Lee, Texas and the U.S. will become Venezuela. Carmen was Miss Venezuela 1984. She’s an American journalist, writer, and activist. She is also the author of the 2020 memoir, Stolen Identity: A Story of Love, Violence and Liberation. Carmen will share her “Sheila Jackson-Lee Retirement Plan” with us as she is Mr. Bill’s guest this morning.
